A wide range of reading skills are assessed, including reading for main ideas, understanding inferences and implied meaning, recognising writer’s opinions, attitudes and purpose, reading for detail, following the development of an argument, & reading for gist. The test covers 3 sections:-
Section 1- Topics are relevant to everyday life in an English-speaking country
Section 2- Short factual texts focusing on work-related issues
Section 3- Contains one longer, more complex text on a topic of general interest
Texts are taken from books, journals, magazines,and newspapers based on academic topics
Texts can range from the descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical
Glossary is provided if texts contains technical terms
Module 4: Test 4: Writing
You are assessed on your ability to write a response which is appropriate in terms of content, the organization of ideas & the accuracy and range of vocabulary and grammar. The test covers 2 parts:-
Task 1- Graph, chart, diagram or table is presented to describe the information in your own words. Describe data, object or an event
Task 2- Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem
Task 1- Write a letter requesting information or explaining the situation. The letter may be personal or semiformal
Task 2- Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem. It can be personal in style than the Academic writing task 2
