DMAIC Process Overview

This process consists of 5 phases:

  1. Define
  2. Measure
  3. Analyze
  4. Improve
  5. Control

1. Define

This phrase summarizes the project plan. It focuses on identifying the scope of the project, its goals, benefits, problems and determining the customers and their requirements.

2. Measure

The phase collects relevant project data and identifies the parameters that have to be quantified and they measure them using different techniques such as Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) and Process Sigma.

3. Analyze

This phase determines the causes of business inefficiency by identifying the gaps between the actual and desired performance and the scope for its improvement.

4. Improve

This phase improves the process by identifying potential solutions and how to test and implement them for improvement.

5. Control

This phase generates a detailed plan for monitoring solutions and evaluates post-implementation results so that desired performance is maintained and changes are incorporated.
