Table of Contents
Books on personal development, or the so-called ‘self’-help genre, have been around for so long, there is no doubt about that. There are a plethora of such books, which promise to help a person overcome the tough situations in life and sail through smoothly. Especially in our modern times, where publishing a book has become as easy as ordering a product online, there is a rise in the number of Author-s who promise to improve your life Author- offering some quick-fix solutions for your troubles. But there are very few Author-s who write books that leave a lasting impact, without merely indulging in flowery language and empty platitudes.
1. Ikigai
The book does a decent job of relating the concept of Ikigai to modern day psychology (with Frankl’s Logotherapy from Man’s Search for Meaning among others) and a few scientific references in a simple manner. It talks about how purpose plays an important role in a man’s life and the different ways in which it manifests itself. It also tackles some ways to ‘find your flow’ and ensure that what you do receives 100% of your attention and that you enjoy whatever you are creating

2. Life’s Amazing Secrets
This book simply and slowly makes us realise what all wrong we are doing in life, how wrong we are living our relationships. And, then tell us the best way to overcome it. The book explains to us the four wheels of life, where we have to control the steering wheel. The best part i found was the two worksheets given at the end of the book i.e. One is a forgiveness worksheet, which helps you to forgive people and the second is Ikigai, which is basically a Japanese word which means ‘reason to live’ and is best explained in the book.

3. The Magic Of Thinking Big
In this book, Dr.David Schwartz elaborates on the ageless principle of ‘you become what you think’. What is so refreshing about this book is the very practical approach to the problems and the offering of subtle solutions. This book does not ask you to write some self-assuring line 100 times daily. This book does not ask you to stare at yourself in a mirror – except on one rare occasion – and repeat some ‘magical phrase’ so many times to encourage yourself. All this book asks you is to think and to think BIG.

4. How To Win Friends And Influence People
The book basically tells you to be agreeable to all, find something to honestly like about them and praise them on it, talk about their interests only and, practically, act like a people pleaser all the time. The book gives practical advice, but somehow I feel if you really put this into practice, you might end up becoming a people-pleaser. You would come across as patronizing, trying to flatter people (I know the book tells you to do it by heart) all the time. You might just lose your respect among your peers.

5. Money Master The Game
This is a great book and I have found a great admiration for Tony Robbins. It’s pretty clear from reading his book and watching his interview that he really cares about helping other people through knowledge and money. The notion of investing in Mutual Funds was completely obliterated, this I definitely support. Just index guys, through DCA in my opinion. Another thing I like about this book is when he asked about what amount of money will satisfy you? One guy said a billion dollars and instead of just ignoring him, Tony went ahead and showed him how it doesn’t make much money (critical mass) to maintain your dream level of lifestyle.

This is one of the best books on personal change that I have read. It is loaded with real-life examples of how people’s mindsets/belief systems have affected outcomes in their personal/professional/sports lives. 10. Think And Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill, indeed, covers pretty much all aspects of the power of the human mind to materialise anything we desire in life. And, believe me, when I say, I have read tons of books about personal development. But so far, this book is the best. Nevertheless, it does cover all aspects of it in a reasonably profound manner. Obviously, if your intention is to expand your knowledge in a very specific aspect of the process of manifestation, for example, Persistence, or Law Of Attraction, then I would advise you to get a book focusing solely on that specific aspect. Furthermore, If you are new to this type of knowledge, this would be the first book to start with. It will provide you with a general overview of this Power and will boost your motivation to expand your knowledge about it.
