What is Junior MBA?

A Junior MBA or Teen MBA is a programme designed for school students to enhance their understanding of the real world. With the advent of technology and global communication in the 21st century, there is an escalation of young entrepreneurs all over the globe.

Through case studies and business models of famous companies like Apple, Samsung etc. the Teen MBA programmes focus on improving the presentation skills and amplifying the critical thinking power of the students.

Why focus on ‘Dealing with Pressure’?

High-pressure circumstances are quintessential in almost every role there is, and coping with them can be quite tedious. The business world is ideally known for its pressure, pace and level of responsibility.

Throughout the MBA degree, students fine-tune their ability to manage high-pressure situations–from working towards deadlines to remaining calm and focussed in exams. Students can then transfer these skills into their professional lives and feel confident in their ability to deal with whatever gets thrown their way.

Learning to deal with pressure in early stages of life not only helps the student in coping with stressful tasks but also helps the young adult to manage their time more efficiently, all while maintaining a tranquil state of mind.

Further complications of Stress

Pressure or stress of any kind can lead to further complications like depression. Depression in teens has become increasingly common over the years.

  • According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 13.3% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 had “at least one major depressive episode” in 2017. That equates to 3.2 million teens.
  • 20% of females and 6.8% of males aged 12-17 suffered a depressive episode in 2017
  • 16.9% of adolescents “reporting two or more races” suffered a depressive episode in 2017; this represents the highest subgroup of adolescents affected by depression, according to the NIMH
  • 60.1% of depressed adolescents received no treatment; 19.6% received treatment from a health professional; 2.4% were treated with medication alone; 17.6% received treatment from both a health professional and medication (NIMH)
  • Based on the 2017 Youth Risk Behaviours Survey, 7.4 percent of youth in grades 9-12 reported that they had made at least one suicide attempt in the past 12 months

What can Junior MBA programmes do to prioritize ‘dealing with pressure’?

“A critical problem requires a tactful solution”.

For an issue with the magnitude of that which concerns with ‘dealing with pressure’, appropriate courses of action have to be taken which ensure that the students can calmly meet their deadlines and have a focused mindset.

The Junior MBA should provide deadlines and tasks within a brief period so that students can learn time management on their own with a little assistance. They should also work on increasing the focus of their students so that examination stress is at a minimum.

Such endeavours will help these young achievers in their future and enrich their personalities.
